artist statement
I work with figured and dyed wood veneers, using color, shape, and grain to create movement and tension between living amorphic shapes that generate stress through space and form. The work's surface is two-dimensional, with no depth or three-dimensional elements. Forms push and pull against each other; each struggling against the other to define their shape, the space they inhabit, and create tensions, pressures, and influences on the dynamics of their environment. Form and movement define relationships and dependencies as they struggle for existence within a constrained area.
